Plotholders at one of the two small sites run by Ward End Gardeners Association have been in over-drive this week. Last September, we managed to get a Veolia Envirogrant to make improvements there, and over the winter, some of the 11 plotholders have pulled out the stops to make a few changes – ones which will make a difference to new people as well as themselves. They have cleared some of the vacant sites, strimming couch grass and weeds and upgrading facilities. These include new surfaces round the toilet block, rainwater harvesting from the tearoom and storage shed, and a communal composting area.
This week, they collected and filled two large skips of rubbish accumulated over the years in various parts of the site. Fantastic job!
Now all they need are some new people to turn up and take on vacant plots – it’s a good time to get started with spring on its way.
