You’ve heard of roof gardens, vertical gardens, water gardens, indoor/outdoor gardens. So why not mobile gardens? ones that you can take with you for a bit of instant green therapy wherever you are.
Here’s a couple of examples from the Gardeners World Live Show in 2019 where there was a display of mainly wheelbarrow gardens, but one of the exhibitors chose an old suitcase to illustrate a travel theme.
Plants can grow happily in recycled containers such as supermarket trolleys or bread baskets, or old crates and home-made boxes. Anything you can put soil in and a few holes for drainage. Put ’em on wheels or load ’em in a car and they’re mobile gardens!
The Unity Hubb and Ward End Gardeners Association are inviting people in Hodge Hill and neighbouring areas to create mobile gardens and bring them along to an event planned for the 18th August 2020 at St Margarets Road Allotments. All you have to do is dream up and find or make a container which can be moved and we’ll supply some plants and seeds (flowers, herbs, vegetables) to get you started. You can add your own too.
This project is open to families or adult households – and its for people new to gardening as well as old hands. There’ll be a display of the Miniature and Mobile Gardens on the 18th August, and exhibitors can put their creations in for a competition and prizes if they wish.
So don’t delay – tell us NOW that you want to have a go. We’ve only so many plants and seeds to give away, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
