Rents

Rents are set by Birmingham City Council Allotments Department and are payable a year in advance for the “Allotment Year” which runs from 1st October of one year to 30th September of the following year.

Rents depend on the size of the plot, but there are only 4 levels of rent, and each covers a wide range of sizes. Associations cannot vary the rentals for bigger or smaller plots within a band. For example, Standard Plots can vary from 167 to 334 square metres, but all get charged the same yearly rental.

Rents are now set to rise in line with the Retail Price Index as determined in August each year. Inflation means that they are likely to keep rising every year.

Plotholders over 65 are eligible for a reduced rent which is set at just over half the normal amount (it’s been calculated as a percentage increase on what was charged last year). No other groups get a discount on the set levels.
